What
This powerful knee strike aimed at the midsection is of one of the main offensive techniques (Ta Mae Mai) used by all Muay Lopburi fighters. The knee follows a straight path to the target, usually the abdominal area.
Why
Muay Lopburi boxers usually attack the head with punches or kicks: this tactic often opens gaps in the opponent’s defense of the middle or lower area. A forceful straight knee aimed at the unprotected solar plexus or breast bone can be a finishing blow.
How
This basic yet very effective Muay Lopburi offensive technique can be executed as a direct attack (following a fake blow to the head) or as a counterattack against punches. When the opponent throws a straight punch to the head, parry or block the attack and swiftly retaliate with a knee to the solar plexus.
